It is around this time that the funniest Super Bowl commercials are revisited in segments like TSN's Top 10, Spike TV, and basically every other television channel for men, period. Everyone is getting revved for the big show.
However, I've decided to say feck all y'all, and make a list that has nothing to do whatsoever with American footy. That's right. Here's my list of Top 5 NHL Commercials Ever Made:
5. The NHL Road Trip Commercial
This commercial is a breath of fresh air because it flaunts the personalities of NHL players to an extent we don't normally see. My favourite part is Joe Thronton scarfing down chocolate squares...
"What are you doing?"
"NUFFING..."
4. The Boston Bruins Commercial
This one is hilarious, and rings true for many an NHL fan. Canuck fans, you should know that the only stimulative reponse you're ever allowed to have towards a Flames fan is this.
3. The Best Baby Ever Commercial
This commercial separates NHL fans as the fanatical and mentally-ill creatures we are. We like our egos stroked too. LOSER, LOSER, BEST COMMERCIAL EVER!
2. The "Is This the Year?" Commercial, Sidney Crosby version
This commercial would stand well on its own, but the fact that this indeed was the year for Sid and Co. made it that much more special. Creative concept, wonderful execution.
1. The Stanley Cup Collage Commercial
This commercial plays so skillfully with the idea of time: it is the transient second of a snapshot, and then the stretching of that second over a 100-year time frame. It reminds us of some of hockey's most enduring and familiar traditions; Lord Stanley, as always, is lifted by the captain, kissed, and then passed to whomever deserves it next. This could be the team's leading scorer, their MVP, their hardest working player, or just the really old guy who's been waiting for it all his life. Simple, moving and sentimental, this is one of the NHL's finest promos.

The Loser Point is a hockey blog for all the junkies who love and worship the sport as much as I do. I have an irregular obsession for playoff mullets, Sami Salo’s peanuts, and Sidney Crosby’s two front teeth.
